Goal: To discover which kind of food the mealworms prefer more, bread or apples.

Materials: bread, apple

Hypothesis: We believe that they will go more towards the fruit than the bread because it had the most moisture/juice.

Procedure: We put a piece of bread on one side of the paper plate and a piece of apple on the other. We placed a covering over the paper plate for two minutes before removing it to see what the mealworms had done.

Observations:  3 went to the apple, but the majority went to the bread, pushing against it until the moved it about 4 cm to the right.

Results:  For this experiment our hypothesis was incorrect as the majority of the mealworms chose to eat the bread instead of the apple.  We believe that this may have happened because of the presence of a pesticide or the like on the apple.

Independent variables: Amount of food avaialble, direction the mealworm is facing when placed on plate, presence of

pesticides.

Dependent Variables: Reaction of the mealworm
